Sevrier
Sévrier is a nice, small village nestled between the stunning lake Annecy and the green slopes of Semnoz. It is partly a residential community and partly a modern tourist resort that managed to maintain its rural charm.
Sévrier is situated in the most important tourist department in France, the Haute-Savoie, in Rhône-Alpes. It offers plenty of attractions both during the winter and summer seasons. During the winter you can ski at the beautiful slopes of nearby mountains.
During the summer season, you have the lake Annecy and the superb surroundings to enjoy yourself.
Located at the west side of Lake Annecy, Sévrier is close to the following peaks: Semnoz, Roc des Bœufs, and Taillefer. Also, if you enjoy the countryside, be prepared to explore great paths, specially prepared for you, in beautiful forest areas, which offer an abundance of colours and smells.
The regional natural park of the Massif des Bauges is a great option as well. It is formed by a succession of green peaks that encircle the lake and its crystal clear waters.
When in Sévrier, there are many activities to choose from: water or land sports, nature, culture, festivals, good food etc. On the water, you can choose kayaking, rowing, sailing, water skiing, wake boarding, kite surfing, wind surfing, diving, swimming, canoeing, pedal boat, rafting, relaxing on the beaches, or fishing.
Lake Annecy is a great spot for fishing, but the river Laudon is a great place as well.
If you choose canoeing, kayaking, or sailing, you can rent the boat on the lake by hourly or daily rates, and can even have an instructor since there are summer courses offered by some clubs. Other sports include: horse riding, tennis, hiking mountain biking, trekking, canyoning, and rock climbing.
Opposite to what people believe, the lake and its surrounding mountains are great for active tourists.
Hiking is a great choice in Sévrier. You can hike through dense forests like the Combe d’Ire in the Bauges mountain range. Also, there are two very good nature reserves: Roc de Chère, which presents a Mediterranean flora and varieties from the glacial period, and Bout du Lac, where you can walk on the old railway sleepers across reed beds.
When it comes to accommodation, there is a range of options: from holiday residences to nice hotels. The price varies a lot too: you can have ski chalets, holiday homes and villas, and hotels from which you can choose self catering or bread and breakfast. Some even offer panoramic views of the lake and mountains around it. Also, if you enjoy camping, there are great campsites where you can be even closer to nature.
Sévrier is placed on the north-western shores of the lake and is essentially a suburb of Annecy. It has 3,900 inhabitants and a lot of culture to offer. Sévrier’s panorama is enriched by the neighboring rivers, and gastronomy is a plus. Here you can experience French gastronomy in a hearty local cuisine fashion. Food is composed mostly by pork and cheese-based dishes. You will definitely have the opportunity to eat great fondue savoyarde, tartiflettes, raclettes, and so on.
