Doussard

Doussard, covers an area of 2254 ha,and counts approximately 3 000 inhabitants. It is situated at an altitude of 470 m at the southern extremity of Lake Annecy and possesses 11 km of lakeshore. The village is situated at less than one kilometre off the RN 508 road.

Location: 19 km from Annecy and 7 km from Faverges. Talloires, Montmin, Faverges, Giez, Chevaline, Lathuille and Duingt surround the village that lies at the end of the Annecy valley, which results from glacial erosion. The common land covered by the village penetrates into the Bauges massif, and is adjacent to the neighbouring Savoie départment.

• to the south, mount Charbon to the Col de Bornette and the Pointe de Banc Plat, where the maximum altitude of 1907 m is to be found.
• to the west, mount Taillefer and the Bornette stream, setting the border with Lathuile the neighbouring village.
• to the east, the wooded massif of the Pointe de Chenevier (1303 m) is geologically part of the Bornes massif.

Dulciatis – Macherine – Doussard The site was settled as early as the Neolithic period. The Dulciatis Villa is mentioned in the Royal Charter of Lothar II dated 868. In 1016, Queen Ermengarde handed the Villa over to the Monastery of Talloires. The medieval village was set on the banks of the Ire river in a zone that is nowadays a marsh. Macherine, the current chef-lieu belonged to Burgundy. Doussard was long under the protectorate of Duingt.Doussard and its heritage. The Villa Vetri - Verthier owes its name to the Roman settlement. The Chapel - Notre Dame de la Nativité was restored in 1862. The Maison Blain house is listed, and dates from 15th century. The Medieval Bridge is also listed. This is where Monseigneur de Nemours used to perceive a toll for crossing. The Tour Carrée of Beauvivier, situated in the natural reservation is an ancient dwelling that dates back to 1239. The village ovens and ponds are also part of the heritage.
